I was an English major too and I don’t think I picked up a “fun” book for ages after college because it didn’t feel literary enough!
It’s so silly in retrospect because those “fun” books helped me rediscover a love for reading that’s kept me going as an adult (and even brought me full circle back to more serious lit).
I love mysteries, too! I've been working my way through the British Library Crime Classics - not all of them are as well-written and deep as Agatha Christie or Dorothy L.
